The purpose of this organization is to unite all Christian organizations on campus for fellowship on one evening during the week. Our goal is to embolden each Cadet with words of encouragement from the word of God, so that they will be able to overcome any obstacle they may face while in college and life and excel in their walk with Christ.
Some of the activities will include praise and worship, encouraging words from guest speakers, and refreshments.
Note: SOAR will be meeting in the Pipe Band Room on February 6, 13, and 20 March 27, and April 3.
Shape Note Singing
Place: Summerall Chapel
Shape-note singing is a traditional style of music-making that originated in the American colonies and developed in the Southern United States during the 19th century. The music is entirely a cappella, and there are no rehearsals or performances; the group meets solely to make music and to enjoy fellowship. This group sings music primarily from two tunebooks, the Southern Harmony (published in 1835 in Spartanburg) and The Sacred Harp. For those unfamiliar with this style of music, a YouTube playlist containing several examples can be found by scanning the QR code below. For more information contact Mitchell Stecker (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Stephen Jones (email@example.com).
